Neutron bomb

When I was a kid I heard about a fabled 'neutron bomb' that would wipe out all humans, but leave everything else intact. Plants would continue to grow and animals would roam the empty halls of undisturbed cities completely devoid of human presence. There's something excitingly creepy about a scene like that...it's an image that reappears occasionally in cinema too -- for example some of the underwater scenes in Waterworld, the scenes of earth millions of years in the future in Spielberg's AI, and in Logan's Run too. I'm also thinking of H.G. Welles' Time Machine too. Well, I saw a cool link on digg.com today that has a little chart of how the earth would progressively change absent the presence of humans. Check it out here: http://www.worldwithoutus.com/did_you_know.html

Zizek!

Just watched Zizek! -- a movie about the "intellectual rockstar" Slavoj Zizek. I found his speech impediment and accent a bit impenetrable (does he have ill-fitting dentures?) and the artifacts of the movie-making a bit distracting. Most of the interview scenes are highly constructed -- for example, interviewing him sitting in front of two toilets etc. But even through all that -- and my profound ignorance of both Marx and Lacan -- I feel moved to read a bit more about Zizek and try to wrap my head around some of his ideas.

Houdini

I just read a very cool little post about Houdini, the escape artist. He was a real visionary and the lessons he applied to becoming a star decades ago still apply today.

Bioluminescence

Not sure if I spelled that right, but I'm at the natural history museum
looking at glowing sea creatures. Some day soon some one will figure out
how to insert bioluminescent cells into humans and the whole tattoo
industry is going to "light up."

Mobile

Ok here's my first real mobile blog entry. Waiting in line at ups and
trying to beat a nasty headache. Wish I could say its due to partying; its
not. But I did go to a dinner party last night at peter and ericas house.
He cooked amazing home made ravioli and then we watched the muppet movie. I
forgot how clever that flick is and how great the songs are. Sounds corny,
I know, but its worth watching.
