Singles

Sometimes I record an idea and it blossomes into a complete song. Other times the little squirmy is just a one-off. Here's an assortment of tracks -- some turned into songs, others stand alone as experiments or collaborations.

Cyberboy
Just an idea for a song's chorus. 2006 05 20

Outerspace
Song for George. And other people. This one chick said it sounds "hopeful." I disagree.

Your Utopia
I wrote and recorded this song for my final project in "Utopia is Coming" -- a class taught by Lenore Malen in my masters program at the New School for Social Research. It's accompanied by this 9.5MB video, my first ever.

Angels
October of 2003 Dan Dreifort cam to visit annd we recorded this version of Angles -- the first time I recorded with drums. It's rough, but Dan's input helped solidify the idea. This song is in WMA format, so you'll need Windows Media Player.

Indelible Beancurd
Who needs to know what it means when you've got this much funk? October of 2003 -- Dan Dreifort on bass, drums, some vocals and keys. And weirdness. This song is in WMA format, so you'll need Windows Media Player.

More Blood than Beer
Some people have the strength to stick with the tough choices they make. I recently spent 7 months or so with someone like that. And at the end of it I realized that I'm one of those people too. (also hear the original rougher version) Posted in Feb 2002

Lost and Found
This is the first song I've recorded since completing the demo over the summer. So I'm in my new pad in Harlem and I wrote this tune. I used a Korg Prophecy for the keys sounds (Thanks, Nat for the long-term loaner.) Posted in late Feb 2002.

Lost and Found studio version
I recorded this during autumn 2003 with producer, Elie Massias at his studio in Brooklyn. Jordan Yaruss plays keys and sings some backing vocals and a guy named Bryan from around the block plays drums. Elie and a friend of his form France did the programming, smaples and additional guitars and bass.

St. Patty
This is a weird instrumental track that I did over a drum machine beat on St. Patrick's day. Recorded in 2000

This Isn't Rocket Science
Man, I can't wait to add some drums to this stuff. I'm not sure how I'll do it yet. Maybe I'll be able to find someone with a better studio who can import some of these tracks and lay down some drums for me... Recorded in 2000

You're that Stupid Kid is the first tune I've recorded using my new microphones. This is a solo effort (just me on the instruments and vocals), but I envision rerecording the background vocals with female singers.I'm so excited -- I just recorded and posted this song today! Recorded in 1999

It's Lesson Too Late For the Learning.mp3 2.76M Words and Music by Tom Paxton sung by my dad, Hanoch McCarty, and myself (My dad's playing the guitar!) Recorded in 2001

I've also turned my mics on Brian Newman, an inspired songwriter. His tune, I'm Not Broken.mp3, has a decidedly Beatlesy feel. That's him playing acoustic guitar and singing lead, I play thye bass, lead guitar and sing the backups with him. Recorded in 2001
