Our Smiling Jesus Band (OSJB) was one of the biggest musical projects
of my life. My involvement began in January of 1995 when I joined
Dan Dreifort, Frank Longano, Ben Johnson and Jeremy Simmons in Athens,
Ohio. The band as such didn't last too long as Jeremy bailed out
in search of the everlasting buzz and Ben took over the drums.
As a more solid (though still highly questionable) 4 piece ensemble
OSJB blitzed the stages of bars and bowling alleys all over Ohio,
West Virginia and Kentucky. We recorded a bunch of stuff on 4-track
and even made it into a studio a few times. The most complete product
being "Nailed," a 45-minute, 12-song album.
- Breathe
- one of 2 radio singles, damn catchy, almost triumphant.
- Solstice
- an ode to a lost girl.
- Oh My
God - Radio blargh! This one will allegedly get stuck in your
head for weeks on end. Listen at your own risk.
- Indasno
- jangly guitar, hummable melodies!
- Pope
Song - would have been better in 4/4 time...why waltz when
you can rock?
- Things
- another one in 3/4 time...but this one kinda rocks.
- Cuckold
- this one's for my ex. it's kind of funky, so was she.
- Naked
- what we called a "panty-wetter." the audience would
occasionally sing along with this cheezball anthem.
- Particle
Ray - upbeat and poppy, lots of jangly guitar. tweek!
- Downrite
- major harmonies, I always thought that if we cut this one down
to 3 minutes it could have been a hit.
- Precog
- dan's robo-infused dreams. Don't fear the tweaker!
- I
Don't Care - hidden track! or did they just forget to print
the title on the CD case? who cares?!
