4-Tracks

The Tascam 424 (pictured) was my entrance in the world of multi-tracking. It allowed me to lay down guitar tracks and then record layers of harmonies and lead guitar lines over it. I made some truly abhorrent stuff! However, I also recorded some tunes that are pretty fun to listen to.

One of my favorite songs from the 4-track days is Smoo, which I recorded with Klayton Kendall. Yah, that's his voice at the beginning and his inspired drumming. It's almost a rap, but somehow it's so much less...

Around the same time (1996?) I recorded This Is the Way, which like Smoo is filled with tripped out effects, strange drumming and half-assed ennui. Unfortunately the only copy of this song I could find was on a crappy cassette where the last 30 seconds or so of the song have been erased. Oh well.

Here are some cuts from a latenight acoustic session with Dan Dreifort. I don't think we did much over dubbing on these songs -- just a few mics and guitars plugged directly into the 4-track. The version of Conspiracy Theory contains some really nice guitar work by Dan. This version of Dignity lets you actually hear most of the words. I always wanted to record Missakiss with a band in a studio, but at least there's this acoustic version. I think Dan's band, Heroin Dog recorded a cover of it once. Maybe I'll post that here someday too. Speaking of Dan, here's his version of Sope recorded that same night.
